Andrew (or Andy has he is known by most people) started his life overseas in Germany to be precise. His Dad was in the RAF in Germany at the time. He is not German as he was born on the base. He grew up in Lancashire with his brother Chris (the best man) and Claire (one of the bridesmaids). Throughout his school life he wanted to be a chef and by the time of 13 had his career planned out down to the college courses he would do and when he was going to buy his first restaurant.
This plan was dug up with his last careers interview where A levels (yeah that dirty word) was mentioned. After lots of ums and ahhs he finally went to do A levels hating most of it but got though and moved to Stoke on Trent to Study Biology. Three years later gaining a 2.1 in Applied Ecology he entered the Students Union as Education and Welfare Officer and then later as president.
On leaving the Students Union he decided to join the RAF and got an interview but failed all but the bleep test! So determined not to work for Mc Donald’s decided to go back to university and study Marine and Freshwater Ecology and environmental management at master’s level. Although quite tough he really enjoyed it and was thrilled to be offered a PhD place at the University of Glasgow where he studied for his masters.
He is now 6 months-1 year in to his PhD and has just about managed to live two lives one in Glasgow and one in Newcastle with Kat.
Andy is a firm believer in God and became a Christian when he was 14 years old and has attended church in Glasgow at Sandyford Henderson Memorial church when he is not in Newcastle visiting Kat. He is a strong believer that he can believe in God and be a scientist wanting his science to speak for itself to show that this can happen.
In his spare time (if he ever has any) he loves to watch F1, swim as much as he can, cycles on the lovely roads of Glasgow (trying to miss the potholes!) and designing websites like this one. He is in early stages of setting up wattsthesolution.co.uk a website company that designs bespoke websites at a good price.
He is looking forward to a wonderful life with Kat, who has been with him through thick and thin over the last two years including his work at the Co-op raising money for his Masters, learning about Bee’s for an essay he was writing and even measuring animals with me!
