As it is market day in Chester-le-Street parking very near to the Church will be almost impossible, (see details of parking areas below), so please leave yourself enough time. It will also make it very difficult for the taking of photographs outside the Church afterwards however we will be having photographs in the church and will have many opportunities at the Chilton Hotel during the reception.

Public Transport
Trains
The nearest train station to the church is Chester-le-Street and it is a stop on some National Express East Coast routes. Alternatively you can travel to Durham or Newcastle and get a local train to Chester-le-Street. Once at the station walk down the hill towards the main shopping street. You will pass Wilkinsons on your left. You will reach a mini roundabout at the bottom of the hill. Walk straight across the road and carry on down the hill with the library on your right and a pub called the Lambton Arms on your left. This will take you to the main shopping street. Turn left and walk down the hill. The Church is in the Market Place at the bottom of the hill.
Buses
Any bus from Newcastle or Durham to Chester-le-Street will stop near the church at the bottom of the main shopping street. If you head to the Market Place the Methodist Church is the large Church across the road from the Market Place.
Parking
This will be a problem as there will be the Saturday market so we advise to get there as early as possible. There is limited parking if you take the first right after the church and also if you carry on further down that road on your right hand side, however these will probably be full. Tesco allow the only free parking in Chester-le-Street for two hours. There is also other parking around Chester-le-Street if you follow the signs. Alternatively you might wish to go straight to the Chilton and get a taxi from there down to the church or try and car share.
Directions to the Chilton (DH4 6PY)
Head back toward the roundabout with the BP garage and take the last exit (BP on your right) toward Houghton –le-Spring and the riverside (A167). Take the first exit of the next roundabout and straight on at the second, which will take you past the entrance to the riverside cricket ground on your right, and the park on your left.
Carry on this road up the hill past the golf club and Lumley Castle on your left. Keep on this road until you get to another roundabout (don’t turn right at the first Great Lumley sign). Take the last exit toward Great Lumley up to the village. When you reach a t junction take a left with the MOT garage on you right and follow the road around bearing right and over the A1. At the T junction take a right and then the first left where there is a sign for the Chilton hotel. This will be appearing on the left hand side of the road.
Public Transport
The Chilton is about ten minutes from the Church in a car however there is no public transport that goes past the venue. If you do not have a car we can give you taxi numbers or we may be able to find a lift in someone else’s car.
